IntroductionThe Humble beginning: It all started when Rev. Fr. Rex T. Cassion, Parochial Vicar of Sto. Nino Shrine, Libertad, Butuan city celebrated the “Simbang gabi” mass at the barrio. He (Fr. Rex) was invited by the sponsoring family for a dinner. At the house (of the sponsor) he saw a young boy (deaf) who never joined the mass because no one can interpret for him the celebration. The said experience moved Fr. Rex to look for a sign language interpreter to teach him to sign. That’s why few deaf visited him one time in the parish and agreed to have an exclusive mass for them (deaf) at the adoration chapel of Sto. Nino Shrine. The first exclusive mass we had was last March 15, 2009 at 2PM. We were warmly welcomed by the Parish Pastoral Council as members of the Youth Organization. With the enthusiasm of fr. Rex to be of helped to the Hearing impaired, the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Reverend Juan de Dios M. Pueblos, DD. to allowed him (fr. Rex) to make the Deaf Community his special advocacy.
