| Introduction | On 12/17/07 I drove out to Sterling to meet the 14 wk old puppy whose profile I had been checking non-stop for a week. I would log on a dozen times a day just to see if his fluffy little face was still posted. The “honeymoon” lasted a week and then he became a nightmare. He refused to climb stairs; he growled at me while he ate, he defecated in my house with zeal. I hated him. 4 months later, as if a switch had been pulled, he turned into the most amazing, albeit very large, playful, and tireless dog. I did what anyone would, I brought home a foster dog, a 6 month old pittie. 2 years and 51 fosters later, Tuck had become detached from the fosters. With her blue coat, amber eyes, and cropped ears, Sasha didn’t look at all like the perfect family dog she was and she had no intention of being ignored by Turk. When Turk sat in the yard, she sat next to him, when he lied down, she lied on top of him; aloofness was not an option. And so, I signed her adoption papers too. Everyone I knew was floored when I announced I was done fostering and not at all surprised when I welcomed Leia, a pit/lab mix into my house 6 months later. And so the saga continues. |
