| Favorite Music | "Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet" by Gavin Bryars ranks among my favorites for a number of reasons: it is both ancient and modern; it is pop and it is, at the same time, folk but more than anything else it is classical; it is incidental and simple yet it is extremely well planned and comlex; it is minimal and it is symphonic; it fits cathedral and a street corner all the same; serious as it is, there is something humorous in the fact that a person like me, or you, would listen to it and enjoy it. It is the only recording that I with confidence can claim everyone should own, as a safe shortcut to beauty and as a reminder what a listening experience should be like. |
