Introduction David B. Cruz is the Newton Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where he teaches courses in the areas of constitutional law and sex, gender, and sexual orientation. Before joining the law faculty at USC, Professor Cruz was a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General in Washington, D.C. He also clerked for the late Honorable Edward R. Becker, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Professor Cruz has served as Co-President of ILGLaw, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, and Intersex Law Association; chair of the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues; a board-elected General Counsel of the national ACLU; and a member of the Boards of Directors of the ACLU of Southern California and of the Equality California Institute, and still serves in the latter capacity. Cruz is admitted to the bars of the State of New York and the United States Supreme Court.
