Occupation teacher and photographer

Introduction I have been a photographer for 20 years. My background and early work was in documentary photography. Eventually I decided to start a business as a local portrait photographer. The advantage I have in wedding these two approaches is that I still look for the truth in an image or the hint of a story that wants to emerge. The truth is powerful and deeply memorable and I believe that when a client pulls out a family photo years from now they want to feel moved. I have exhibited in many juried shows, had a solo gallery show, won an Honorable Mention in a Smithsonian Magazine contest and was awarded a grant for Women in Photography to study at the Maine Media Workshops. Recently I was an online featured photographer on Confessions of a Prop Junkie as well as Life, Defined Project. Accolades aside, photography is a creative field and one needs constant motivation and inspiration to keep it moving forward. When I need to wake myself up I turn the lens on my children whose presence makes me listen to my intuition. CONTACT me at kjoynikoapple@gmail.com
