Introduction I am Raksha, a recent retiree, a single parent of a son who is on his own now. Originally from New Delhi, India, I have been in the US for more than three decades and this is home now. Am at a great place in my life and excited at the prospect of rediscovering the world even more now since I have the time... I have been through a lot in life and emerged stronger without losing my zest and joie de vivre... I consider myself an incurable optimist, an idealist yet grounded and a hopeless romantic.
Interests News junkie, politics, reading, creative writing, music, hanging out with friends, gym, tennis and looking for antiques.
Favorite Movies Oldtime classics like the World War II movies including the Great Escape, the Guns of Navarone, Lawrence of Arabia, Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful and others too many to list here. For mind numbing - pure entertainment - love the Bollywood movies as they keep the connection with home alive apart from being great FUN!!!
Favorite Music Oldies Goldies, soft rock and almost all genres except rap. Specifically, I love the Eagles, the Doors, Simon & Garfunkel, America, Pink Floyd, Musicals like Evita, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and on and on. Classical according to my mood.
Favorite Books Kahlil Gibran's -The Prophet, almost all books by Thomas Hardy - pessimistic as he was - I consider him one of the most brilliant writers of all time, PG Wodehouse, Gerald Durrell- many other British authors like them. Am developing an affinity for the new crop of Indian authors like Jhumpa Lahiri. Spend a lot of time reading non-fiction and often work related material. Haven't been able to develop the same passion for American literature yet.
