Introduction | A professional artist since the age of 19, Ferrin studied drawing and did his first year foundation program at the Art Institute of Boston where he started school in 1977. He spent the next four and a half years at the Pennsylvania of the Fine arts where he won a traveling scholarship, the Cecilia Beaux prize in portraiture and numerous other awards. He studied writing and European history at University of Pennsylvania, and French at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Still fluent, he is an able translator as well. Currently residing in the Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia, he paints, produces etchings and is currently writing an expansive and storied history of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. As he says, "It is impossible to write about the history of art in America without talking about the Academy." |
