Introduction My name is Sara Mathewson. I grew up in Minneapolis in a large family of 11 kids. I am number 10. I have three adult children, Jessi, Dominic ad Stephanie Sawyer. I came to art later in life after a big change. It was in 2002 and I began by learning watercolor painting. I am a self taught artist using books and online resources as my learning tools and of course hours of practice. Watercolor was my first love, love the transparency of the medium. But then in 2007 i began to learn pastels and they soon became my favorite medium. though very dusty, no other medium has the luminosity of pastel. it is pure pigment with maybe a very little bit of binder. The pastel particles are all their own little crystal and they sparkle if not blended or if fixative is not used. I rarely use it but when I do there is a new one that is non toxic that I use called Spectra fix. It is made of casein and it changes the painting very little when used. I am also a woman with many chronic diseases and painting has been the one thing to really bring me joy. It feeds my soul.
