Introduction | (West County HawkWatch {WCHW} story) Larry Broderick and Jesse House started WCHW back in 1996, photographing hawks, recording numbers, building a website and reaching out to land management organizations to access properties. Fast forward 2020, We currently have a team of a over 100 Raptor enthusiasts, with two dozen professional photographers. When called into action we can rally more. We’ve saved Swainson hawks nesting sites, Protected Peregrine Falcon nesting locations, and helped with re-nesting raptors that were inadvertently displaced. We are tuned in to the current plan to build Wind Power everywhere and are advocating to protect vital flyways & habitats, once approved, any wind machines should be of the latest bird friendly design. We also study the overwintering Ferruginous and Rough-legged Hawks in the area, as well as the current resurgence of Bald Eagles in the region, keeping track of a dozen pairs in the region. We also run the Jenner Headlands Preserve Raptor Migration Project & The Jenner Bald Eagle Group. |
