Introduction | I am a wound and ostomy nurse practitioner in Syracuse, NY. My church, the First Presbyterian Church in Skaneateles, NY was involved in building a medical clinic in a remote area in the Sudan. This was initiated by John Dau, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan sponsored by our church. Read all about him on http://www.johndaufoundation.org/. My husband, Don Cross, assisted in designing and building the clinic 2 years ago, and it has been open for patient care since then. He recently went over to put in solar panels and a wind turbine to construct cold chain for immunizations, and this is a very exciting event! I went over as part of a 10 member delegation, which included Dr. David Reed of Upstate Medical University Hospital, Dr. Barbara Connor of Auburn Memorial Hospital, 3 medical students named Dan Friedman, Roksanna Sadeghi, and Joe Kowinski, my daughter Lia who did public health surveys, a professional photographer Bruce Strong (http://www.brucestrong.com/) and a videographer named Sean Clausen (see http://www.clinicsrising.com/). I went with a specific interest in wound care. We were there for one and a half weeks and it was an amazing trip! |
