| Introduction | I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. My major was fiber art, specifically handmade paper, multi media fiber sculpture and felted art. I have become established as a wearable felt artist as well as a sculptural basketry artist. I utilize my feltwork in my sculptural basketry forms to create both soft surfaces and hard surfaces of design. My basketry pieces are hand stitched coiled forms that often use hand dyed pine needles. My felt work in each basketry piece is typically hand dyed wool that I dye on the stove top with acid dyes. As you can see when you look at my work, I tend to love organic, free form shapes. Shapes mimicking the natural world, whether it is in the sea or forest. I have always been interested in natures color palettes and textures and my work tends to mimic these attributes. I continue to explore the possibilities that felt making offers in both wearable art applications and home décor. I make one of a kind felted hats,wraps, clothing, pillows, handbags,and jewelry. |
