Introduction Mikhail Karikis is Greek/British interdisciplinary artist. His work emerges from his long-standing investigation of the voice as a sculptural material and a conceptual compass which he employs to explore notions of community, professional identity and human rights. Karikis studied architecture at the Bartlett (UCL) and completed an MA and a PhD at the Slade School London. Recent solo exhibitions include SeaWomen at Arnolfini, Bristol (2013) and at Wapping Project London (2012); and XENON at Galeria Eduardo Fernandes, Sao Paulo (2012). Selected group exhibitions include Videonale 14, Bonn Germany (2013); Manifesta 9, Belgium (2012); The Greek Pavillon, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2012); Mobile Radio, Sao Paulo Bienal, Brazil (2012); Danish Pavilion, 54th Venice Biennale (2011); Performance Festival, 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale, Greece (2011). Screenings at Whitechapel Gallery and performances at Barbican and Royal Opera House (2011). Since 2007 Karikis’s work has included worldwide music releases: Xenophonia (2012), Morphica (2009) and Orphica (2007) on Sub Rosa. He has been included in the compilations Army Me, Björk (One Little Indian 2005) and Sound Unbound, DJ Spooky (MIT Press 2007).
