| Introduction | When I was a young child, I found a bed of pure white kaolin sandwiched between layers of yellow, blue-gray, and bright red Georgia clay. Many years later my pinched pots reflect the first clay bodies I ever encountered. I am now a ceramics artist who specializes in pots pinched from a variety of dramatically different colors of clay. My forms are simple, elegant, and organic. Making them is an exploration and a journey. I start with a ball of clay and have an idea of what I’m going to make, but the clay has a life of its own and leads my hands to create the final form. My work invites exploration. Each piece can be experienced visually, but much of the beauty of the piece isn’t realized until it is held. I was recently delighted to discover that when I place my ear over the opening in my pots, I can hear the ocean. People often tell me that my work reminds them of artifacts. |
