| Introduction | Carolyn Lavender was raised in Kent, Washington, but lives/works in Phoenix Arizona. Her work has been populated with animals, self-portraits, processed-based abstraction, and appropriation. The Journal Series are illustrations of collages done in her private journals. They have become an organizational system for the constant collection of images that is her practice. Lavender received art degrees from Northern Arizona and Arizona State University. She has completed residencies at Skidmore College, in Saratoga Springs, NY and Studios Midwest, in Galesburg, IL. In 2001 Lavender helped found, and was a member, of the Phoenix artist-run space, Eye lounge. |
