| Introduction | I had a severe stroke ten years ago and had to go to hospital for six months in England. My wife and I spent the next two years in England getting rehabilitation and all that that entails. I used to be a university lecturer in the social sciences, so I was particularly keen to read once more - which I now do ! (Even tho' I read much more slowly now ) When we came back to Ireland the health service was first class in further helping me with my recovery. Such as it is ! |
| Interests | Sailing, music, reading - 20th century history - cooking. |
| Favorite music | I used to be in a band called the Casuals when I was 18 and 19 years old. Since that time - which seems a very long time ago - I took up the Irish Pipes and not playing them now is the greatest dilemma of my stroke. |
| Favorite books | Nowadays I tend to read shorter pieces such as reviews and extracts in, for example, the London Review of Books. At present I'm reading Fergal Keane's autobiography. Very good ! |
