| Introduction | I was born the 7th of May, at the Quicksand Lumber Mill in Breathitt County, Ky. In a small Mill house, nestled between two ridges,my Mom's Labor began. It had been raining for several days and still raining hard as Dad left the house that spring morning on horseback to fetch the midwife. On the return, the midwife, Becky Bays, fell off her horse crossing a raging creek. My Dad jumped in after her and managed to drag her to shore. But by the time they walked in the Mill house I was already born. I was Mom’s first daughter. My Mom passed away three years ago this past April and at her passing I lost a small piece of my soul. |
