About me

Gender MALE
Location Austin, TX
Introduction I am another "Austin Artist." I feel more comfortable referring to myself as a creative type. A native to the Texas Gulf Coast, I've made Austin my home for the last 14 years. I find a lot of influence in this amazing city that can sometimes be seen in my art. When I am not painting I am spending time pursuing another passion. Since 2008 I've helped organize fund raisers with a local volunteer group benefiting the Emergency Fund at AIDS Services of Austin. I feel as long as I am able I will use my art and other resources to help those living with HIV and AIDS.
Interests ARTIST STATEMENT I paint to expose myself creatively while bringing something intense and colorful to those who view it. I incorporate modern elements to culturally traditional, and sometimes religious, images. My styles changes from time to time as I enjoy experimenting with different medias. I don't come from a traditional home but enjoy embracing, and exploring my Hispanic heritage through art. Religious imagery and Mexican Folk art are a big part of my influence. I like to add modern themes to them while keeping some of the same style... always in bright colors. I also like incorporating different time periods to to create a different tone to my work as well. My theme decision depends a lot on whats going on in my life and the world around me at the time. Anything from family, to music can affect the mood of my work. Currently I've been working with a combination of Loteria and Dia De Los Muertos imagery to create re-imagined scenes. This evolved from a previous project of modern day Virgins and Sacred Hearts. I am challenging myself to bring something new to images we've seen time and time again. By adding my own style with a modern day "Austin" influence I am able to achieve this. Ultimately, creating art is a big part of my life that I enjoy sharing with others.
