| Introduction | Growing up in N.Z has been great, I was born in the little town of Hokitika, raised in Christchuch and also spent much time in the North Island town Whangarei. I was still a young lad when my mother bought me the best gift ever! The S.A.S survival book. I studied that book and practiced the many survival and camp-craft techniques such as making different traps to catch unsuspecting quarry (almost always possums) and making shelters. I never lost my enthusiasm. Through the years I have continued to develop a real appreciation for the outdoors and exploration, I still have the S.A.S survival book but now in addition to that we have been equipped with the vast research tool the Internet, some serious equipment and a bit more experience. I work part time, and also spend a lot of time working with a volunteer organization. As there is always much to do I feel it important to find recreation that is not only challenging and rewarding but that truly refreshes you even if you feel at times it may feel like wreck-reation. Ive always found though a good blast into the mountains, bush, rivers or coast really lifts your spirits. |
