Introduction | John is a dyslexic high school drop out who, after a couple of years of international travel returned to college and started doing community development work. Upon graduating in Human Relations and Community Studies, John did community work with the Montreal YMCA. In 1980, he moved to Toronto to work with the Ontario Government as Community Development Consultant. In the mid-80s, he realized that computer technology was going to have more impact on his clients than he was and so he began a self-study program and so learned taught himself to programme in Basic. In 1986, he joined a newly formed IT Branch and witnessed the early movement from Personal to Local and Wide-Area computing. Of course this movement was to culminate in less than 10 years with the advent of a more dominant network architecture - the internet. No one saw it coming. |
