| Introduction | I have been married to my best friend for almost 18 hears to a military man, Joe, and we have been blessed by God with two beautiful daughters, G and C. The first time I met melanoma was in 1997 when I was pregnant with C. Thankfully it was only Stage 1 and a wide excision rid me of it. In July 2010 melanoma came back again, thankfully again Stage1, this time I had Sentinel Node Biopsy along with a wide excision. In August 2011 I was diagnosed witThyroid cancer. Right before the surgery, the standard pre-surgical chest x-ray found something suspicious in my left lung. After the thyroid cancer surgery, a lung biopsy was preformed and StageIV melanoma was found in my lung. Further testing, 13 tumors were found in my brain along with tumors scattered throughout my abdominal area and on my spine. If I had not thyroid cancer and if the endocrinologist didn't believe it wasn't a more aggressive cancer needing immediate surgery, the melanoma would have stayed hidden, growing, throughout my body so I forever will view my thyroid cancer as a blessing. THIS is how I started running this path. |
