| Introduction | As an only child living in a rural area, my mother tried to keep me busy. When I was twelve, she gave me a beading kit with rose quartz chips, yellow jade, and black onyx beads. The sparkling contents of the box captivated me. My love for beading took hold. Most weekends flew by in a blur of beads. I'd planned to continue making jewelry, but school and life took over. Fifteen years later, while looking for accessories, I realized most of the fashion jewelry now is generally the same. It's either too juvenile or too matronly, too edgy or too classic. Two years ago I purchased a beginner's beading book, some basic equipment, and a handful of pretty beads. Sitting at an old table in my spare bedroom, surrounded by storage bins and my three kitties, I began. My first pieces were earrings and a necklace with clumsy wire wrapping. Practice made perfect. At work I began receiving compliments. After a year of hearing "you should sell your jewelry" I received two orders. Selling my creations became more than a passing thought.
