Introduction	I am a biologist and Professor of Biology with specialties in botany, taxonomy, evolutionary biology and genetics, but my interests are even more far-ranging. I also love animals of all sorts and run a small zoo in my department comprising snakes, lizards, turtles, spiders, cockroaches and assorted invertebrates. I also am very interested in science as it impacts society. Because of this I am also interested in how society views science and how scientific issues often become controversial due to a combination of misunderstanding and politicization. With that in mind, this blog is an attempt explore those connections, and in the process hopefully provide a better understanding of science for non-scientists.
