Introduction Oren Golan is a researcher at the Faculty of Education at Haifa University and head of the program of Technologies in Educaiton https://sites.google.com/a/edtech.haifa.ac.il/en/home. Golan's axis of research is on new media, society and informal education, with a strong emphasis on digital youth and online religion. He is a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship and in 2009/10 spent a visiting year at NYU's center for religion and Media, and was awarded a Postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University to spend 2 years as a visiting scholar (2010-12). His research interests include: Internet and new media studies, the sociology of youth, social and ethnographic aspects of Israeli society, informal education, social trust, friendship, entrepreneurship, and of late – online religion in the US and Israel. He has been affiliated (2010-2012) with the Sociology department and the Center for Jewish Studies at Northwestern University. In 2012 he has become a part of a group of researchers that received the prestigious Israeli ICORE "Excellence Center" grant in the field of “Learning in a Networked Society” (LINKS), and has been awarded a Marie Curie grant.
