Introduction Oren Golan is a researcher at the Faculty of Education at Haifa University and head of the program of Technologies in Educaiton Golan's axis of research is on new media, society and informal education, with a strong emphasis on digital youth and online religion. He is a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship and in 2009/10 spent a visiting year at NYU's center for religion and Media, and was awarded a Postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University to spend 2 years as a visiting scholar (2010-12). His research interests include: Internet and new media studies, the sociology of youth, social and ethnographic aspects of Israeli society, informal education, social trust, friendship, entrepreneurship, and of late – online religion in the US and Israel. He has been affiliated (2010-2012) with the Sociology department and the Center for Jewish Studies at Northwestern University. In 2012 he has become a part of a group of researchers that received the prestigious Israeli ICORE "Excellence Center" grant in the field of “Learning in a Networked Society” (LINKS), and has been awarded a Marie Curie grant.
