Introduction Dr. Jason K. Levy is an Associate Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (HSEP) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Our HSEP degrees (B.A. and M.A.) are among the largest and most rigorous Division I national security programs in the country, designed in the broadest interdisciplinary sense for current and future professionals with homeland security and/or emergency preparedness responsibilities. Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge directly applicable to public and private sector employment requirements in the expanding area of homeland security and emergency preparedness. The curriculum folcuses on international and domestic security and preparedness issues related to terrorism, techological hazards, and natural dsasters. VCU's location -- in the state capital and only 90 minutes from the nation's capital -- plays a key role in the program, providing access to homeland security institutions and expert practitioners. The HSEP program uses the resources of VCU's schools of Business, Engineering, and Medicine, which foster excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
