| Introduction | I'm Erica, and I married Jeff in May 2000. Jeff's a corporate controller, and I'm a policy analyst-type for the guvmint. We are the parents of Cassandra and Carter, the most wonderful tots in the whole world, who we adopted from Guatemala. Our long, strange, trip to parenthood took five years, and included such fun filled events as two second-trimester miscarriages, a chemical pregnancy, numerous failed IUI's and IVFs, and a bonus failed donor egg IVF. And a couple of surgeries (one to repair a septated uterus that was discovered AFTER all of the above). We live in northern Virginia with the tots and our two handsome and charming cats, Charlie and Caesar. We couldn't have made it through those five years without the support of our families and friends, who helped us through some pretty rough times. I will never forget what I've been through, and will never forget my wonderful internet friends, many of whom are now friends in real life. These brave, funny, caring women kept me sane (well, relatively!), and out of the grips of depression. They taught me so much - about infertility, coping with grief, love, and life. |
