Introduction Most Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, was appointed as the 8th Bishop of Peoria on 2/12/2002. Mass of installation celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral on 4/10/2002. Bishop Jenky serves as a Fellow and Trustee of the University of Notre Dame. Born 3/3/1947 in Chicago, he attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish and is a graduate of St. Laurence High School in Oak Lawn, IL. Following his freshman year at the University of Notre Dame he entered the Holy Cross Fathers Novitiate in Bennington, Vt., professing temporary vows with the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1967. He completed his studies for the priesthood at Moreau Seminary at the University of Notre Dame. He earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1970 and a master of theology degree in 1973. Bishop Jenky made his perpetual profession of vows with the Congregation of Holy Cross and was ordained to the diaconate in 1973. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 6, 1974 at Sacred Heart Church on the Notre Dame campus. He was Religious Superior of the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers at Notre Dame, 1985-1991. Bishop Jenky was ordained auxiliary bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend and titular Bishop of St. Matthew in South Bend.
