Occupation Writer
Location Detroit, MI, United States
Introduction At the age of 4 one of my favorite hobbies was reading the Detroit News with my grandfather. My interest in reading evolved into a love for writing--from penning articles to ghostwriting political speeches. After graduating from Detroit’s Dominican high school at 16 I went to Central Michigan University, where I experienced enough home sickness, culture shock & racial intolerance to write a survival guide! I majored in Journalism until falling in love with Public Relations. My love for talking rivaled my love for writing and PR let me do both. After graduating with a PR degree I landed a gig as a communications person for a local politician, then Communications Director at a Michigan labor union. As much as I love politics & PR,the opportunity to tell a story that stimulates change is what I’m most passionate about. I’ve contributed to Blacknews.com, The MI Chronicle, MI Citizen and Nasdaq.com. Gordon Parks, a photojournalist who revolutionized the way we look at the world, summed up his life’s work in a few words,"I picked up a camera because it was my choice of weapons against what I hated most about the universe: racism, intolerance, poverty.” ...I chose a pen.
