Introduction I am an advocate of my African American History and I seek, and embrace it - no matter the Country, City or State. I am not originally a resident of Camden, but have researched the City's history and found rich untold African and African American legacies. I began researching the life and legacy of Dempsey D. Butler in 2005; MUCH of the Butler history found on three local websites is a product of my research, however, they have chosen to make it their own. Upon my first visit to Butler Cemetery in 2005, I found this beautiful resting place overrun with fallen tree limbs, trash, grass and weeds. So I took action and coordinated my first cleanup in 2006 as a Black History Project. My respect and love for the legacy of Dempsey D. Butler has motivated me to create the Friends of Butler Cemetery Assoc., coordinate monthly cemetery clean ups, and acquire authorization from the Camden County Historic Commission and Camden City Planning Board to restore the esthetics of the cemetery. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in becoming actively involved with our efforts - please reach out - send me an email. Fundraising efforts are underway and I would love to have your support!
