Introduction My name is Wendy. As a child, I remember hearing the saying "Sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never hurt you". I didn't believe it then and I still don't. Words can be hurtful; but, they can also be loving, encouraging, kind and inspiring. They are how we express our thoughts and emotions, anger or joy, sorrow and pain, love, understanding, empathy, pride, what we think and how we feel. Favorite Movies More from me: Another thing: Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote "Life is short, but there is always time enough for courtesy." Well, I certainly think there SHOULD always be enough time for courtesy. When someone says HELLO to you, say HELLO back. When someone SMILES at you, SMILE back. It is not about 'pretending' to like someone. It is not about being 'the doorman to the world'. It IS about common courtesy, manners and respect. It IS about acknowledging the presence of someone who was gracious enough to ACKNOWLEDGE YOU. Some can not do this and that saddens me greatly. Sadness not for myself or for others who understand acts of courtesy; but for the ones who can not see the JOY a simple courteous act brings to another; and in doing so will never FEEL THE JOY such an act brings one's own heart and soul...... It takes less than 1 second to say HELLO back to someone. Is 1 second of someone's time, for courtesy's sake, REALLY to much to ask ? ? ? ? ?
