| Introduction | I am a priest in the great middle England town of Middlehampton. Famous for being in the centre and the middle of nowhere. We Middlehamptonians define themselves by what they are not. We are not the Industrial North or the Stockbroker South. We are not the Farming East or the Tourist land of the West. We are not rich or poor, busy or idle.We are not clever nor are we stupid. We are not people of passion or sloth. We do not have success,failure is far from us. To us everything is like Goldilocks, just right when it comes from the centre, the warm,the middle is where we feel safe. We are never fair to middling, or middling to poor, we are just middling. And what a parish is, so is its Priest. |
