Introduction	In Iva's Child: A Woman's Journey Home, the author mounts a battle for voice after being silenced in childhood when her mother dies. Indoctrinated by a dominant stepmother on how to speak and act, she becomes a docile witness of her father's pedophilia. In the "white space" of her mother's absence, a lifetime is spent in search of her lost self. Trained to survive rather than thrive marks her in ways that leave tracks back to her childhood. The author writes to make these tracks visible to herself, her children, and to others on a similar journey home.
