Introduction Founding advisor, Albany Area Math Circle. Consultant, Miller Risk Advisors. Co-organizer of Math Prize for Girls@MIT. Our math circle grew out of volunteer mentoring work my two homeschooling daughters and I had been doing with students in a variety of schools since 1995. I teach public finance at Union College, including a service-learning course in which economics majors prepare tax returns for low income working families and senior citizens. A.B. in mathematics from Bryn Mawr College summa cum laude Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard In the past, I have taught at Harvard College, University of Houston, Caltech, Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Harvard Law School. Honors include the Harvard KSG Carballo Award for Excellence in Teaching and Public Service, the Mathematical Association of America's Sliffe Award for Distinguished High School Mathematics Teaching, and the US Presidential Scholar Teacher Recognition Award. I am even prouder of the many honors won by the many students I have mentored and encouraged, and most proud of all those students who are "paying it forward" by mentoring and encouraging others in their turn.
