About me

Occupation Mom, Writer, Photographer, Blogger, App Maker, Muckraker
Location Los Angeles
Introduction I'm Laurie Allee. I’m a writer, a photographer, an app maker, a blogger, a mom, a bookworm, a black sheep, a reluctant existentialist, a magical realist, a champion of underdogs, a collector of absurdities, a gadfly, a birthday candle wisher, a bliss-follower and a long-winded rambler. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas but headed west right after college. LA is home. After a brief dalliance with film and TV, I have spent over 20 years as a freelance writer in advertising, marketing, journalism, film promotion, ghostwriting, educational and instructional materials, health and medical copywriting, financial newsletters, and internet content, website branding and copywriting. I also exhibit my photographs and license them for commercial use. In late 2015, I cofounded Allee Obscura, LLC with my husband. We make creative, magical and amusing apps. I learned to shoot pictures on an old Yashica TLR and an Elmo Super 8, spent hours in my high school darkroom, more hours with 16mm film and 3/4 inch videotape in college and decades playing around with my 35mm SLR -- until I dropped it in a lake. Now, I'm exploring the wonders of the digital sensor.

If you were a pirate, how would you avoid laughing when saying 'poop deck'?

I am a pirate. And there is nothing funny about my poop deck.
