Interests I write about health issues for the general reader who is looking for a common sense approach based on current evidence. I believe that a good diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle can help to keep you well. I am not convinced that diets, herbs, supplements or positive thinking are useful when it comes to curing physical illnesses or treating minor ailments. My new book is about heartburn. It's a fresh look at a very common health problem. I suggest ways to help the weak valve at the top of your stomach to work more efficiently, thus preventing acid backflow and reducing the need for medication or surgery. I can keep my own heartburn under control without antacids as long as I keep on following my own advice. My first book, Your Intelligent Immune System, explains how the body works in sickness and health. It looks at myths about boosting the immune system and suggests how you can take care of your own immune system and get the best out of it. I have B.Sc and M.Phil. degrees from the University of Wales and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Southampton. I have worked as a science teacher in secondary schools and as a staff trainer in the National Health Service and the water industry. I have also been an antenatal teacher, a mother and a school governor. I was born in South Wales but now live on the beautiful island of Anglesey, in North Wales. I practice yoga and walk up and down hills to keep fit. I am also a member of a choir and a local writers' group.
