| Introduction | A steward is defined as one who cares responsibly for things entrusted to him or her. In an environmental sense, it means finding the balance between our needs as a society and those of the natural world, which sustains that society. “Stewardship Matters,” is a continuing series of concise articles which are devoted to seasonal, educational topics of interest to a wide range of environmentally interested readers. In recent past, the ecological richness has been eroded. Wildlife habitat and biodiversity have been lost to suburban expansion and to invasions of non-native plants. The editors of Stewardship Matters believe that these trends can be changed when individuals are educated and empowered to affect their environment in positive ways. |
