| Introduction | I have a lot of fun as a pastor with Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver (AugustanaDenver.org). Life is even more fun with family, friends, mountain bikes, crossfit, movies, and books. For 16 years, I worked as a RN in pediatric oncology and home hospice. For hospice, I started as a primary care nurse and then managed the home care teams of RNs, chaplains, social workers and nurse aides. Baptized through the Roman Catholic Church while living with my first father, then baptized again through the fundamentalist Christian tradition of my step-father, I spent about ten years as an adult religious refugee in no church at all. When our children were born, Rob’s unscathed Lutheran memories, and my fond memories of older church ladies, drew us into the subversion of a Lutheran Christian church (ELCA). I was captured by God’s love that is constant as we struggle with our flaws, doubt, and despair; and as we delight in life earnestly, ironically, and irreverently.
