| Introduction | My Wife, Heidrun, and I own and operate three custom frame and art galleries in Tampa and St. Petersburg called The Great Frame Up. My involvement in the custom framing industry has helped me to understand and appreciate how my artwork can be enhanced by framing of course, but also how to approach creating artwork from a business perspective. We can tell by what our customers are bringing us to have framed what kinds of artwork is selling in terms of price, style, color, format, etc. The trend for the past couple of years has been towards canvas. The texture of canvas helps enhance (in most cases) the feel or look of a piece, even if it is a photograph. With the explosion of the digital age and the affordable pricing of the digital printers especially, we have seen a significant increase in the volume of art, and the kind of images being printed onto canvas. Color is another thing that attracts people's interest. The brighter, the better. So it won't surprise you to find that much of my recent work has been made up of bright colors painted on canvas. |
