| Introduction | My friends and relatives will confirm that I am among the least politically aware of our circle. But the growing terrorism of the last few years, and particularly days, has galvanized me to take a stand against violence as a Muslim. I am very proud of my multi-religious background. At the same time I have become acutely aware of my duties towards the Muslim community at this time. Even though, as an art historian I would like to linger on in my utopia of 16th-century Islamic art, I realize that it is time to take a stand against violence. I am an idealist and believe that if enough of us get the ball rolling we could unite voices from all over the Muslim world community to stand against terrorism within our fold. And while the support of non-Muslims is vital, Muslim moderates have to stand out as a distinct element on their own. So join me in reclaiming the great heritage of Islam for India and the world from the extremists who are destroying it. Pass this on to others if you care. |
