| Introduction | I have always been a country girl at heart, but I didn't always know it. I was raised in the suburbs of a large city, where my parents felt I would have the best education, and my dad made the commute to the city everyday to work. I never knew I was a country girl until I stepped out of the car my fist day of college. I had chosen this college, site unseen, because it was the only college (at the time) that offered the degree I was interested in as an undergraduate program--never mind that it was in the College of Agriculture. I stepped out of the car and smelled the most wonderful aroma I had ever encountered. Breathing deeply I said, "Wow, what is that?" My step father, who had lived on a farm as a kid, said "What? All I smell is cow manure..." And so begins the slow fifteen year realization that the country is in me, and I love it! |
