| Introduction | I obtained a teaching degree in Latin along with a master’s in philosophy and taught Latin, Greek, philosophy and religion in high school (and college) for a number of years before attaining a doctoral degree in educational administration from Ohio State University. During the next 20 years or so, I was involved in high school and college administration, university instruction, and research and writing. The last 10 years, though mixed with some administration and reform efforts, have brought me back to my first love, teaching, beginning at Kalamazoo Central High School and more recently, at Spring Arbor and the University of Phoenix. In 2005, I returned to a passion of my youth, competitive swimming. This week (4/26) we got back from Perth, Australia, where I participated in the biannual Masters World Championships along with more than 5000 swimmers from more than 60 countries. My wife and I, in addition to enjoying the rich cultural life attendant on living in downtown Kalamazoo, make frequent trips to Chicago to enjoy its museums, architecture, plays, symphony, and opera. She directs the public library in Three Rivers. |
