Introduction Yes, that’s me up there - way back in the early 1970s. We didn’t have fancy short racing socks back then and our helmets were made of leather, not plastic like everyone uses now. When your head hit the ground you knew it! This was about the time that everyone started drilling holes in their bikes to make them lighter. Less weight meant that you went faster. Fill your tires with helium and you could break the sound barrier. Well, that’s what we thought back then, anyway. Now days, it’s all about esthetics. A lot of people are trying to reproduce the look of a bygone era, while others are trying to make their bicycle a little different in an age when identical bikes are stamped out at some factory in China.
