| Introduction | My parents brought me up as a Chinese. But I attended an English secondary school, where I learned English and absorbed some aspects of the Western culture. I would have been trained as a teacher at undergraduate level. However, an extraordinary stroke of luck enabled me to study law. After that, I was awarded a scholarship to undertake a postgraduate course. I feel passionately about things that are incorrect. Both within my professional life and outside it, I would like to try to improve. My wife, as most wives and mothers, is happy with things as they are. My four children have grown up and are busy with their own lives. I have made reasonable investments which enable me to pursue my interests. |
| Interests | Learning about new things, gaining new experiences, traveling (especially to historical sites). |
| Favorite movies | I laughed when I watched "The Gods Must be Crazy" (Jamie Uys, 1980). I cried when I watched "Dad" (Jack Lemmon, 1989). I cried too, when, over Christmas, I watched "The Bucket List" (Jack Nicholson, 2007). i enjoyed "House of Flying Daggers" (Zhang Xiyi) for the story and the setting. |
| Favorite music | Classical music when I write, oldies when I am a couch potato. Some Chinese songs from my childhood make me go ga ga, such as "A Distant Land"-(http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=43754152) |
| Favorite books | Books which are well written and are thought provoking, such as "Presumed Innocent" by Scott C. Turow, and books on Chinese history. |
