Introduction I grew up in New Haven, CT, went to Yale as an undergrad and then to Harvard for medical school. I trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. I worked there on the faculty and subsequently at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, CA and the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA before becoming the head of the department of medicine here at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. When I became the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Medicine, I relinquished the department head job. My wife and I live mostly in AZ but we have a home on Cape Cod in Barnstable, MA where we spend substantial free time.
Interests I am the editor of the American Journal of Medicine and a professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. I do the usual academic medical things: teach, administrate, research, publish, and take care of patients. My free time interests are exercise, playing music, traveling and reading.
Favorite Movies My all time favorite is Casablanca.
Favorite Music Anything by Mozart, Handel, Bach, Telemann, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert.
Favorite Books My all time favorite is The Plague by Albert Camus. It has a wonderful doctor hero, Dr. Rieux.
