Introduction Best thing ever?: Sidney Poitier asked his assistant in front of us "Why don't I ever meet young men like this?" Yup. It's all downhill from that life experience. An independent filmmaker, media event producer, programmer, with a focus on filmmaker development. His work includes sci-fi, fantasy and satire and exploring racial dynamics in fresh ways. He has a deep love of movie history. For over 10 years Powys has produced forward-facing film and TV industry events with a focus on filmmaker development initiatives. He has worked in collaboration with the gamut of Canadian and US media organizations and film festivals including Bell Media, Corus, CBC, Visual Effects Society and others to create training, funding, access and screenings for diverse emerging to mid-career film and TV creators and students at venues including Ontario Place Cinesphere, Hot Docs Cinema, Ryerson University, and Canadian Film Centre. He has been an industry judge and speaker at CMPA: Prime Time, Planet In Focus - Canada’s Environmental Film Festival, The Canadian Screen Awards, Female Eye Film Festival.
