| Introduction | Wish in one hand and spit in the other ... and see which hand fills up first. This was my mom's standard reply any time I said, "I wish..." To me, my mom meant that sitting around talking about what I wished for was not going to make it happen and that if it was important to me, I should get busy doing something about it. I remember her words every time I come up against a situation in which I am unhappy or dissatisfied ... most recently last spring, as I contemplated my upcoming 50th birthday and the realization that I was headed to some unhealthy "golden years" if I kept on the track I was on. I was 40 pounds overweight, tired, irritable, and full of aches and pains. Sitting on the couch, saying to myself, "I wish I could get in shape," was not making it happen. So I stopped wishing in one hand and started spitting in the other. This blog is the spit. |
