| Introduction | About the author: Matthew Van Stavern hails from the "Golden State" commonly known as California. He attended California State University of Chico and graduated with a bachelor's in Political Science while completing his Paralegal Certificate. He entered the United States Army and Commissioned from Officers Candidate School in December of 2005, Fort Benning Georgia. After a short period of training he stationed in Fort Hood, Texas where he deployed with 3rd Signal Brigade for Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. After his first tour, he was later deployed again with 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Battalion 82 Field Artillery for Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-11. His plans are to remain in the Army and continue to serve his country. Now he is on deployment a third time. He prays daily for the safety of every service member and thanks God for the love and support of his family and friends. |
