Introduction | Hi, my name is Caitlin and I am a Senior Penguin Biologist at the New England Aquarium. You may be wondering how I ended up with what I consider the coolest job ever. I got my start working with penguins as a volunteer here at the Aquarium 11 years ago. Working with penguins is a lot of scrubbing, hard work, and getting bitten - along with being cold and wet most of the day - but it's one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever have! In my time at the Aquarium I have been very lucky to have many amazing and unique opportunities such as driving a minivan full of noisy southern rockhopper chicks home from Sea World Orlando, raising a little blue penguin chick in my kitchen, and traveling to the farthest reaches of South America to study southern rockhopper penguins on some of the most remote islands in Chile! Read the blog to find out more about our work with these extraordinary birds and learn about the ways you can help protect diminishing penguin populations. |
