Introduction In 2010 at 31 years old I was diagnosed with 2 slightly herniated discs in my back, spinal stenosis and moderate arthritis. I also have chronic kidney disease and fibromyalgia. I was told I would need back surgery in the next 10 years. I have taken things into my own hands and now have my life back! In February 2011 I started working out to DVD’s. I also changed my eating habits to include more whole foods, cut out the junk and cut down on portion sizes. The weight literally fell off. In September of 2011, I ran my first 5K. Running quickly became my new addiction. I set small goals for myself and ran a 10K and a leg of a marathon relay. I have since ran an Obstacle Course race. I have learned the key to keeping off weight and staying healthy is continually making small goals. I live by the saying, “No pain, no gain”. I started this blog so everyone can see the true ups and downs of a new athlete, a REAL person, who struggles just like most people, and is willing to share that.
