About me

Introduction Kia Ora, My name is Sharon and I am the Rūma Weka kaiako in 2023. I grew up on the West Coast, living in Whataroa and then Hari Hari with my family as a child. I left the West Coast at the age of 15 to attend boarding school in Nelson, completing my last year of high school at a school in Japan. I started studying Japanese at the age of ten and this is a great passion of mine and something unique that I have brought into the classroom. I was lucky enough to be able to teach English in Japan for 3 years from 2009-2012 and again for 1 year from 2017-2018 and this sparked my love for teaching. After returning to New Zealand, I moved to Queenstown and got a job teaching English to adults from around the world. When Covid hit, I returned home to the West Coast and moved to Hokitika whilst I studied to become a primary school teacher. It feels amazing be a part of the Hokitika Primary School whānau and to have such a wonderful class this year. It's going to be a great year for growth and learning!
