About me

IndustryEducation
LocationMassanetta Springs, Virginia, United States
IntroductionI teach courses on poetry and poets. I also teach courses on Irish literature and lead study trips to Ireland some summers. I think poetry is a vital part of our experience and that its role is to deepen our experience of our own lives and of language and to help us connect our lives with others. We can do this in lots of ways including close reading, study and reading poems aloud. And by talking with others about poems. I am much less interested in what a poem means than in what it does. I have an M.F.A. from the University of Virginia where I studied with Greg Orr, Carolyn Forche, Donald Justice and others. My work has appeared in the Mississippi Review, Poetry East, Southwords (Ireland), and dANDelion (Canada), as well as online at qarrtsilnni (http://qarrtsiluni.com/2008/05/31/flotsam/).
